cleaning

My Toddlers enjoyed watching these guys washing the windows, inside & out, of our parking garage stairwells.  Be sure to look at the variety of methods they are using to reach every window pane:
1) a large mechanical arm/ladder to wash on the outside.
2) ladders, long ladders, perched at interesting angles -- it is a stairwell on the inside -- the stairs add a quirk to planning where to place the ladder's feet.
3)  a swing!  See the lowest washer?  He is seated on a bench swing, suspended from a rope that leads back to a top corner on the inside of the structure.

They could not finish it all in one day as the inside of the glass stairwell gets exceedingly hot in the Texas afternoon sun.

Standing in December

I love the "Where I Stand" photo essays by Lynn Krawcyzk which she began a few years ago.  Inspired to try my own, though I fear in the land of one season (a.k.a. Houston, TX), my version may have fewer dimensions.  Still it will be fun to try!

The above is my first ... Standing in December, though in other places in the USA December finds the the ground covered in snow or ice or slush.  In my backyard, the leaves have just started to fall!  The time to rake is now.  The time to jump in leaves is now.  The time to reflect on the changing seasons (or mere hint of a change) is any time!

Kay's needles

I was sad to learn of a friend's passing recently.  The memories start flooding in.  I had not heard from Kay in ages, but over 20 years ago, we were friends.  We met through our mutual friend Gracie -- in Los Fresnos where we were all teachers.
Then Kay retired from teaching and I switched to part-time, then quit work to pursue other interests, and only Gracie was still teaching Math (Geometry).  We still got together regularly in our Sigma Alpha Beta group to stitch and chat and socialize.  We went to movies and out to eat occasionally.  We sewed together making Gracie's daughter's wedding dress.  We shared lots of good times together......

The photo above was taken at Kay's Memorial Service in Harlingen by Gracie & sent to me as I could not get away to attend.  It features a display of Kay's favorite things ... including a needle case I made for her all those long years ago.
